How to Become an Adult A1C Champion

If you've demonstrated successful blood sugar management for an extended period of time and have a passion for helping others, we invite you to consider becoming an A1C Champion.

Adult Champions serve as presenters for three different programs:

Some of the requirements for becoming an A1C Champion include:

  • A medical diagnosis of type 1 or type 2 diabetes
  • An A1C of less than 7%, the ADA-recommended goal
  • Taking insulin injections for at least 3 months
  • A history of successful self-management of diabetes
  • A strong desire to help others
  • Experience comfort/confidence/ease when speaking in front of and/or facilitating discussions with groups
  • Adequate health and stamina for independent travel

If you're selected as an A1C Champion, you'll go through an extensive self-study with our training materials, as well as participate in two on-site training and evaluation sessions. You'll have a training coach who will schedule calls with you to review your assignments, answer any questions you may have and help you prepare your own presentation. As an A1C Champion, you will also go through an annual reevaluation process.

After certification, we ask that A1C Champions® be available for at least 1 one-hour session per month for the next year. You may be asked to travel for a program, and if you do, all travel arrangements and expenses will be paid for by the A1C Champions® program.

This program is so incredible! It has added such a purpose to my life, to be able to give something back and to help people with diabetes in some small way.
